Perthshire and the Central area of Scotland around Stirling, offer a fantastic range of courses and scenery to visiting golfers. Perth itself, or the "historic city of Perth" offers culture in the form of both a theatre and a modern concert hall. it offers numerous restaurants, a cinema and some lovely hotels. There are also hotels situated in the Perthshire countryside.
Golf in Perthshire includes both Gleneagles and Auchterarder golf clubs at Auchterarder. These can be reached easily by car via the A9 dual carriageway, and there is also a train station at Gleneagles. Perth itself has Craigie Hill golf courses and King James VI golf course which is situated on an island on the Tay. It can be reached via a crossing over a railway bridge !
There are also two courses at Murrayshall Hotel and Country Club just outside Perth. For those looking for some history, Scone Palace, just outside Perth, is where the ancient kinds of Scotland were crowned. You can visit the Palace and / or the grounds of the Palace. There is also a playpark there which is worth a visit and on certain days of the year there is horse racing in Perth which provides an excellent day out.
Further north of Perth, you will find the excellent
Rosemount Golf course at Blairgowrie. Other gems of golf
that are worth a mention include Taymouth Castle golf club
at Kenmore, Alyth Golf Course. There is also an excellent 9
hole golf club at St Fillans. There are numerous other
excellent courses in the area, so although Perthshire does
not offer classic links golf, as it is situated in the green
heart of Scotland, it does offer still an excellent base for
a fantastic golfing holiday playing at some of the best golf
courses in Scotland.
